The wetlands and swamps of the past are the botanic gardens and footy grounds of now. Thinking about collective memory and nostalgia, how we built botanical gardens to remember Europe, how classicism arose from the dark ages, and how we now acknowledge indigenous culture and the powerful connection to country. Habitat is altered, landforms changed, but time also alters landscape memory . There are memory nodes where the fall of the skyline or the bend of the bay gives rise to nostalgia, to gut feelings and a rush of sense of place.
