Metamorph

​My submission for Metamorph, an exploration of transformation by No Vacancy Gallery, takes the form of a series of Pentimento* video clips, observing the transformation of landscape as footprints of colonisation of the Australian landscape. The images are original drawings by myself, overlaid with other drawings by myself, or a stylised Google Earth image. Thanks to Lin Baird for assistance with Video clips.
The videos are accompanied by selections of prose from my travel journals.
* A pentimento (plural pentimenti) is "the presence or emergence," in a painting, "of earlier images, forms, or strokes that have been changed and painted over." [1] The word is Italian for repentance, from the verb pentirsi, meaning to repent.

​​As a practicing artist I have travelled far and wide across Australia, walked on country, camped on country and rolled out my swag. I thank the custodians and I acknowledge the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, culture and community. I pay my respect to Elders past and present.
